Seawolves roast the Blue Hens in convincing weekend sweep!

This past weekend the Seawolves faced off against division rival the University of Delaware Blue Hens. This weekend’s games were extremely important considering Delaware sits in first place and the Seawolves right behind them in second in their league standings. Stony Brook came out to a quick start when captain, JT hall, buried the rebound off assistant captain Frank Sherding’s shot from the point. Right after Hall’s goal it was Brendan Callelo finishing off a great feed from Chris Stemke. However the Seawolves took a shift off and Delaware scored two goals in less than a minute to tie the game heading into the second period. That was enough to ignite the Seawolves offense for what would end up being a final score of 9 to 3. Goals came from Palmieri, Riccardi, Murphy, Boser, another one from Hall, and two more from Stemke to complete the hatrick! Once the Seawolves went up by a large margin the dirty play of the Blue Hens increased. There were several fights and scrums to end the game and caused tensions to carry over into Sunday’s matchup.

Going in to Sunday’s game the Seawolves knew they had to put back to back wins together if they hoped to make up ground on the Blue Hens, and that’s just what they did. Early in the first period forward, Devon Palmieri deflected in a shot from defenseman, Alex Miller to give the Seawolves an early 1-0 lead. Shortly after forward, Brendan Calello found the back of the net off a rebound in front of the net. The Seawolves knew this game they had to keep their foot on the gas to crush the spirits of the Blue Hens. Before the period ended the Seawolves tacked on two more goals coming from assistant captain Frank Sherding and forward Brad Riccardi, making it 4-0 after the first period. Going into the second period the physical play picked up and tempers were flaring. The Seawolves scored two more goals from Stemke and forward Eddie Osowski. Before heading into the locker room, the Bluehens goalie charged after Stemke causing chaos to ensue. In between periods the Seawolves were instructed by head coach, Chris Garofalo, to skate away as he saw the importance of not having any suspensions. The Seawolves did just that and walked away with a final score of 7-3 and the weekend sweep! Next weekend the Seawolves travel to Central Oklahoma to face off against the Broncos!
