This past weekend the Seawolves opened the 2017-2018 season by defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes on both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. On Saturday night, Stony Brook’s special teams played an intricate part in the win. Stony Brook’s power play netted two power play goals and killed off all of their penalties. The Seawolves went on to beat the Golden Flashes 3-0. The star of the game went to senior forward Ori Benyamini who tallied two assists in the game. Sunday afternoon wasn’t much different between the two teams, it was a game filled with special teams play. Stony Brook got off to a quick start by putting four quick goals on the board, two of them power play goals. Kent State managed to battle back in the second period by cutting the Seawolves lead to 5-2. Stony Brook was able to outlast the Golden Flashes with a final score of 6-2. With two goals on Sunday the star of the game went to rookie forward, Ian Bernes. This upcoming Friday night, the Stony Brook travels to take on division opponent Rutgers University, but then are back home Saturday night October 7th at 8:30pm. All home games are played at the Rinx in Hauppauge. Come down and cheer on the Seawolves this Saturday night!
