Stony Brook, NY – Stony Brook Hockey announced Monday the addition of Associate Head Coach Andrew Veglucci for the 2024-25 season.
Veglucci returns to the Seawolves after spending two years coaching in the NCAA, equipped with knowledge and experience that can help the team reach its full potential. Following an ESCHL Championship win with the Seawolves in the 2021-22 season, Veglucci was named an assistant coach for the SUNY Morrisville NCAA Division III men’s ice hockey team. He played a pivotal role in recruiting during his tenure at Morrisville, while also designing practices and enhancing team strategies through video analysis. Veglucci’s expertise in special teams and offensive strategies were vital to the team’s success.
After one season with Morrisville, Veglucci joined the coaching staff of the NCAA Division I Long Island University Sharks for the 2023-24 season. His impact was immediate and significant, with the Sharks recording their winningest season in program history, both in terms of total wins and winning percentage. Veglucci’s ability to elevate the Sharks’ performance fostered a winning culture and had a positive impact on the team’s success.
“I am very excited to have Andrew back as my Associate Head Coach,” Head Coach Chris Garofalo said. “Andrew was a key part of our success in the 2021-22 season. He was a big contributing factor for us to qualify for our 21st ACHA National Tournament and finish ranked No. 7 overall in the country that year. Having Andrew back is another important piece to the New Era of Stony Brook Hockey.”
Veglucci returns to Stony Brook with a proven track record of success. During his previous tenure, he played an essential role in the Seawolves’ 2021-22 ESCHL Championship season. Veglucci was responsible for video review, practice design, and offensive strategies during his first stint with the team. In his return, he will share these responsibilities and more with an impressive and talented coaching staff consisting of Garofalo, Assistant Coach Ken Hoey, and newly-named Assistant Coach Mike Brdey.
“I am honored to return and be a part of the New Era of Stony Brook Hockey,” Veglucci said. “Stony Brook Hockey embodies all the values and standards that I hold in high regard and can’t wait to get started.”
The Seawolves will begin the 2024-25 campaign early next month, beginning with a home-and-home series against the NYU Violets. Be there when the puck drops at The Rinx on Friday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m.
