2018-19 Stony Brook Hockey Captain Brad Riccardi will be taking his talents to Virginia after signing a Professional Tryout contract with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
“I’d like to thank Coach Bremner for the opportunity to join the Rail Yard Dawgs for training camp this October,” Riccardi said. “Roanoke had a successful 2018-19 season and I’m looking forward to helping them achieve this year’s goal of winning a Presidents Cup.”
The forward set career highs in goals during his last season with Stony Brook, lighting the lamp 16 times and tallying 32 assists. Riccardi’s 48 points in 32 games was the second highest total on the team and he was responsible for two game-winning goals throughout the year.
As he prepares for the exciting opportunity which lies ahead, Riccardi realizes the impact that his time at Stony Brook has had on his development as a player.
“Thank you Coach Garofalo and the Seawolves,” Riccardi said. “Stony Brook Hockey is a first-class organization and without their help, this next step in my career wouldn’t be possible.”
Riccardi becomes the second Seawolves alumnus from the 2019 graduating class to sign in the SPHL, joining defenseman Frank Coscia who played two games with the Evansville Thunderbolts last season. Riccardi is now the eighth player in Stony Brook Hockey history to turn pro and the fifth in the past four years.
