The Seawolves announced Thursday that Michael Brdey has joined the program as an Assistant Coach for the 2024-25 season.
Brdey comes to Stony Brook with a wealth of hockey knowledge and connections to the game, both locally and nationally. Brdey is a scout for one of the top Junior programs in the country, the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Within this role, Mike is responsible for recruiting players, focusing on the New England Prep circuit as well as scouting junior programs in the northeast.
In addition to his responsibilities with the Brahmas, Brdey is a level four coach and a skills instructor at High Tempo Hockey. He spent 12 years with the Long Island Gulls organization and many of Brdey’s former players have moved on to preparatory schools and NCAA Division I and III programs.
“We are excited to add Mike to the coaching staff,” Head Coach Chris Garofalo said. “Mike will bring a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge. He is going to be another key piece of the puzzle we need to continue to grow the program and this great tradition at Stony Brook.”
Brdey served as the captain of LIU’s club college hockey team and moved behind the bench after graduating, serving as an Assistant Coach from 1994-1996. Currently, Brdey is a History Teacher at Brentwood School District with 28 years of experience in the classroom. He lives in Oakdale, NY with his wife Stacey and has four children, Savannah, Landon, Brent, and Ethan.
