The Seawolves and Associate Head Coach Colin Brumsted announced his departure from Stony Brook Hockey on Tuesday after nearly two decades of dedication to the program. Brumsted spent five years as a defenseman for the team, including two seasons as captain, before becoming an Assistant Coach upon his graduation in 2010.
Brumsted’s tenure as a member of the coaching staff has contributed to the most successful era in Stony Brook Hockey’s 55-year history. “Brum,” along with Head Coach Christopher Garofalo, has been a fixture behind the Seawolves’ bench since the 2010-11 season. The team won six league titles during that span and appeared in the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s 2015 National Championship game. Brumsted was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2017-18 ACHA season and has held that title for the past seven years.
Brumsted played defense for Stony Brook from 2005-2010 and was an important part of the team’s transition from DII to DI. He was a three-time league champion as a player and appeared at the ACHA National Tournament in all five seasons.
“Colin has been an integral part of the success and growth of the program,” Garofalo said. “Losing him is similar to losing one of your best players. He will surely be missed but he will always be a part of the Seawolves family.”
A Columbia, MD native, Brumsted and his family plan to return to Maryland as they embark on a new chapter. Stony Brook Hockey would like to thank Colin and his family for 19 years of service and dedication to the program. We wish you all the best in what lies ahead.
