The Seawolves came up short in their exhibition game against the ACHA M2 Select Team, dropping the pre-season matchup 7-3.
The Selects jumped on top early, scoring four goals in the first period. The Seawolves trailed 2-0 through the first seven minutes of the game, but junior forward Joey Slevin cut the lead in half on a Stony Brook power play to make it a 2-1 game. Junior forward Keith O’Brien also found the back of the net in the first period, going five-hole on the Selects goalie for his first of the season. Senior defenseman Kyle Huhn also lit the lamp in the home opener, striking on a third period power play to bring the Seawolves back within three goals. Though Stony Brook gained some momentum late in the game, the Selects scored one last time with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to complete the win.
The Seawolves will look to get back on track and keep their seven-game regular-season home winning streak alive next weekend when they host the Drexel University Dragons. The first of the two games will be played on Saturday, October 5 at 8:30 p.m. at The Rinx. Sunday’s game will be played at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center and will begin at 1:30 p.m.
