Seawolves get into penalty trouble; split weekend series with Syracuse

This past weekend the Seawolves traveled north to take on division opponent, the Syracuse Orangemen. Friday night’s game Stony Brook jumped out to a commanding 4-1 lead over Syracuse. However, the Seawolves fell into penalty trouble Friday night racking up eight minor penalties and two misconducts, giving the Orangemen the chance to get back into the game but Stony Brook was able to hold on to the lead and beat Syracuse 4-3.
Saturday night’s game the officiating picked up right where they left off assessing the Seawolves with penalty after penalty. Stony Brook led throughout the game but a late goal from Syracuse pushed the game into overtime. With seven seconds left in the extra period the Orangemen upset the Seawolves and won the game 3-2.
Coach Garofalo commented after Saturday’s game stating “We have to be better. We capitalized once on our power play this weekend. That’s not good enough. We can’t take that many penalties over the course of a weekend. You spend that much time in the box any team could beat you. However, I do contribute a lot of the penalties called on us to be poor officiating.
Stony Brook will host the University of Rhode Island Rams this Friday night at 9:00pm and Saturday night at 5:00pm. Come down and cheer on your Seawolves! All home games are played at the Rinx in Hauppauge, 660 Terry Rd.
