The Seawolves had a home and home matchup this past weekend against newly added league member, NYU. The Violets had previously competed and found a great deal of success in the Division II ACHA, winning at the national level last year. This success led them to an elevated position where they now play in the same Division I league as Stony Brook.
The first game took place on Friday in Chelsea Piers at the Sky Rink in Manhattan. The Seawolves, despite a slow start with the score tied going into the second period, scored 4 unanswered goals, leading them to a 6-2 victory. Goals were scored by Calello (2), Murphy, Palmieri (2), and Molnar. Additional point getters include Riccardi (1A), Kosina (1A), Sherding (1A), Kowicki (1A), and Slevin (1A).
The second game took place on Stony Brook’s home ice at the Rinx in Hauppauge, where the Seawolves were able to shutout the Violets with a score of 4-0. Goals were scored by Peck, Hart, O’Brien, and Palmieri, giving Palmieri a 4 game point streak going into break. Assists included Huhn, Crockett, Bernes, Calello, and Riccardi. Sophomore goaltender Richard Shipman guarded between the pipes both contests and posted his second shutout of his career. He is now 4-1-1 with a 1.72 Goals against Average and .947 Save Percentage through 6 games this season. The Seawolves are off for the holidays but return Saturday January 13th at 8:30pm and Sunday January 14th at 3:30pm at home to take on league opponent Liberty University. Saturday night the Seawolves will be supporting the NYPD & FDNY, and Sunday is Cub Scouts day. Come down to cheer on the Seawolves and support two great causes! Go Seawolves and Happy Holidays!!
