The Seawolves came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen, due to their inability to stay out of the penalty box. However, Stony Brook did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory on Saturday night. The largest advantage in the game came when the Seawolves’ Justin Lazalde scored at 8:13 in the third period to put Stony Brook up 5-1. Lazalde was all over the ice for the Seawolves, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Lazalde scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0. Stony Brook also got points from Captain JT Hall, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Frank Coscia, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Andrew Cetola, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Joseph Bochichio scored as well. Derek Willms rejected 40 shots on goal for the Seawolves. Stony Brook totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
On Sunday the Seawolves forced the game into overtime when sophomore defenseman Frank Sherding took a shot from the point which was deflected past the LVC goalie by junior forward Justin Lazalde with only eleven seconds left on the clock. But a too many men penalty half way into the extra period forced Stony Brook to be short handed. On the ensuing power play Lebanon Valley would score and win the game 4-3. Throughout the game the Seawolves could not produce up to their normal offensive output, in large part once again due to their inability to stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. In addition Stony Brook was held scoreless on their seven power play opportunities. The three goals for the Seawolves were from Justin Lazalde, Eddie Osowski and Matthew Crockett. Todd Scarola made 41 saves for the Seawolves on 45 shots.
The Seawolves final home games of the season will be this weekend on Saturday, 2/13, at 8:30 pm and again on Sunday, 2/14, at 3:30 pm. The Seawolves will be taking on #4 ranked University of Central Oklahoma. This weekend will be a rematch to last years ACHA National Championship game.
