This past weekend the #12 ranked Seawolves embarked on a journey across the country to face off against, #10 ranked University of Colorado Boulder Buffalos. Early in the first period of Friday night’s game senior forward Chris Stemke started the scoring for the Seawolves after netting a beautiful backhand goal on a breakaway. This goal was Stemke’s first of his four goals of the game. However it was not until the second period where Stony Brook’s rally came alive after a blast from the point by defenseman Frank Sherding. The Seawolves power play proved to be the deciding factor by producing five goals which led the way for the win, earning freshman goaltender Brandon Rathwell his second win of the season stopping 29 of 31 shots. Goals also came from Senior forward, Joe Bochichio and Senior forward Mike Cartwright to help the Seawolves in an 8-2 win. The star of the game went to Chris Stemke who had a total of 5 points.
Saturday night’s game the Seawolves came in a little assumptive and were not focused from the beginning. In fact the very first shift of the game the Buffalo’s scored first, which set the tone for the game. With Stony Brook missing their star of the game from the night before, Chris Stemke, they needed to find scoring from someone else. The Seawolves were able to get goals again from Bochichio and Sherding but not enough to outscore the Buffalos as they fell 3-2 and split the weekend series. The Seawolves are off this weekend for Thanksgiving break but face off against division rival the University of Delaware Blue Hens on December 2nd and 3rd in Delaware. On behalf of the Seawolves we wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and hope to see you at our next home game against Drexel University on Saturday December 12th at 8:30pm. The Seawolves will also be collecting toys for the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital to deliver toys to the kids around the holidays. All home games are played at the Rinx in Hauppauge located at 660 terry road.
