The Seawolves got back in the win column this weekend with a pair of victories against the New York University Violets. After a disappointing weekend in Liberty when the offense struggled and scored just one goal per game, Stony Brook bounced back with a total of 14 against NYU.
The Seawolves earned a 9-5 win to kick off the home-and-home series at Chelsea Piers on Friday, Nov. 9. Freshman forward Dustin Rinaldo led the way with three goals, scoring his first hat trick as a Seawolf.
Junior goalie Richard Shipman made 35 saves on 40 shots to pick up his team-leading fifth win of the season. Stony Brook recorded 45 shots on net and scored five times in the first period alone. The victory also marked the fifth time this season that Stony Brook has scored six or more goals, equaling 2017-18’s full-season total.
Stony Brook scored the first four goals en route to a 5-1 win Saturday night in its return to The Rinx in Hauppauge. Sophomore goalie Robby Lockwood was in net and earned his second win of the season, turning aside 23 of 24 NYU shots.
Junior forward Nick Belger scored twice in Saturday’s game to extend his team-leading goals total to 13. He also leads the Seawolves in points with 22 through 12 games played. Junior forward Kevin Murphy finished the game with three points, the most of any player.
The weekend sweep advances Stony Brook’s overall record to 8-2-2. The Seawolves’ next game will be Saturday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when they host the No. 2 Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines.
All home games are played at the Rinx in Hauppauge, 660 Terry Road.
