Following a disappointing end to the first half of the season, the Seawolves will look forward to a rematch against the Delaware Blue Hens to start the Spring Semester.
On Friday, December 3, Stony Brook traveled to Fred Rust Arena for its last games of the Fall Semester. Game one started off slow with neither team scoring in the first period, but Delaware was able to score back-to-back second period goals to take a 2-0 lead. Seawolves junior defenseman Dominick Molfetto cut the lead in half before the final horn, but ultimately the Blue Hens emerged with a 2-1 win. Stony Brook freshman defenseman Andrew Mancini kick-started game two with a powerplay goal, his second as a Seawolf, but the Blue Hens responded with a powerplay goal of their own to tie the game 1-1 through 20 minutes. The score remained tied throughout the remainder of regulation time, forcing overtime where the Blue Hens scored to earn their second consecutive 2-1 victory.
Despite ending on a disappointing note, the Seawolves had an exciting and successful first semester this year with some extraordinary achievements by the players. Stony Brook started its season off strong, sweeping a two-game series against Syracuse University and out-scoring them by a combined 16-2 score in Stony Brook’s first matchup since before the pandemic. The Seawolves won 12 of their 18 games this semester, including a seven-game winning streak which included a sweep on the road against the then number-one-ranked Adrian Bulldogs. Senior forward and alternate captain Joseph Slevin made program history when he recorded his 77th career assist, ranking him fourth all time in program history since transitioning to ACHA DI. Senior defenseman and team captain Brendan Pepe enters the winter break tied for the ACHA DI lead in goals among defensemen as well as the overall ACHA DI lead in power play goals.
