Stony Brook celebrated Homecoming Weekend with a pair of wins against the University of Rhode Island Rams, extending the Seawolves’ winning streak to five games.
The Seawolves started the weekend off strong on Friday night, scoring two goals in the first period. Freshman defenseman Brendan Fess’ first goal as a Seawolf gave Stony Brook a 1-0 lead about halfway through the opening period and senior defenseman Brendan Pepe added another on the power play a few minutes later. Rhode Island attempted a comeback in the second and third periods, scoring a pair of goals to tie the game at 2-2. However, senior forward Charles Peck scored the game-winning goal on the power play about two minutes later, earning a 3-2 victory for the Seawolves.
After surrendering one goal to the Rams in the first period of game two on Saturday, the Seawolves scored five unanswered goals to secure their second win of the weekend. Pepe was the first to score in Stony Brook’s four-goal second period, followed by tallies from Peck and junior defenseman Matthew McDermitt. With less than 30 seconds to go in the second period, senior forward Michael Galinski found the back of the net, making the score 4-1 Stony Brook through 40 minutes of play. Junior forward Kyle DePalma scored Stony Brook’s fifth and final goal just over seven minutes into the third period, finishing off the Seawolves’ 5-1 win to sweep the Rams.
The Seawolves, who own a 7-1 overall record this season, now shift their attention to a pair of games against New York University. The Seawolves will go on the road for a game at the Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers on Friday, October 29 at 9:00 p.m. Please be advised that no spectators will be allowed at Chelsea Piers this season. The series will then shift back to The Rinx on Saturday, October 30 at 8:30 p.m. when the team will host its first ever Spooky Brook Hockey Night!
