Throughout the 2023-2024 Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs season, many in Virginia learned what Seawolves fans have known for years: Brendan Pepe is elite.
The former Seawolves captain now has the accolades to prove it after being named the SPHL’s Defenseman of the Year. Pepe, in just his second professional season, led all defencemen with 13 goals and was a plus-24 on the season. His 41 points were tied for the highest among blue-liners and he finished the year as one of just 10 players league-wide to compete in all 56 games. Pepe won his first SPHL championship in 2023.
“Choosing to play at Stony Brook is a major reason why I’ve been able to have success in the SPHL,” Pepe said in a recent interview. “I earned opportunities to play a major role in very competitive games throughout my time with the Seawolves.”
Pepe is one of 10 former Seawolves to play professional hockey following their playing career at Stony Brook.
