Stony Brook, NY – Stony Brook Hockey and the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) announced Thursday that the Seawolves will join the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (ACCHL), beginning in the 2025-26 regular season.
The ACCHL, a conference which announced its expansion into ACHA Division I this May, welcomes Stony Brook along with familiar rivals University of Delaware, University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University as part of a four-team North Division in the conference’s inaugural season. They join previously announced members University of Alabama, University of Louisville, North Carolina State University, and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill who will make up the conference’s South Division.
Thursday’s announcement makes the upcoming 2024-25 season Stony Brook’s last as a member of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL). The Seawolves boast five league championships, nine league championship game appearances, and four regular season championships since joining the conference 13 years ago. Regardless of this season’s outcome, Stony Brook will exit the ESCHL as the conference’s all-time leader in each of these categories.
“The ESCHL has been great to us and we have had a great deal of success in the league by winning multiple championships,” Head Coach Chris Garofalo said. “The decision to move to the ACCHL was difficult, but with our goals and the trajectory of our program, it’s the right decision for the growth of the program.”
The Seawolves will face off against each of their soon-to-be ACCHL North rivals at home during the 2024-25 campaign. To receive news and updates about Stony Brook Hockey, be sure to subscribe to our email newsletter and follow our team on Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
